Hi there! I'm Jon Dorais, or Jonny Yoon Dorais as credited on past productions. I'm a DreamWorks PA with a love for stories. When I was a student filmmaker and animator, I lacked money and resources for the stories I wanted to tell. There had to be a more efficient technique of animation for my team and me. I wanted to create a style that could be fast, affordable, and impactful. To fix this problem, I came up with a computer animation technique that used 2D-looking models in 3D sets. This has become an outlet for multiple award-winning animated short films. It continues to make seemingly impossible ideas possible.
Assembled a crew during quarantine for a socially distanced animated short film.
A lost train passenger traverses unfamiliar territory as he follows a railroad back to his long-awaiting home.
An award-winning, TV-length pilot about a little town where everyone is encouraged (or forced) to the best person they can be. The animation includes 2D characters in a 3D toon-shaded world.
Two original episodes and one mini-short for a potential TV series. All made from a combined cast and crew of over 20 people - all of whom were students.
Directorial Debut
Trailer for a complete webseries that blends 2D and 3D animation. It tells the story about Carrotcake, a candy rabbit who finds himself in a chocolate bunny zombie apocalypse. But everything changes when he discovers the chocolate bunny zombies are actually pretty cool, and it's all the other candies that are awful.
Jury Award Winner at Campus Movie Fest (CMF) for San Jose State University. My live-action debut - a mockumentary parody of Gordon Ramsay being on a film set instead of a kitchen.
Lead actor Sam Perrings received the silver tripod award for Best Actor at CMF.
